REACT is built on three pillars: Education, Capacity Building, and Research-Based Reef Enhancement. By training people, building local capacity, and applying science-backed approaches to reef enhancement, we help create the conditions needed for long-term reef recovery.

The future begins with you
We train local youth in diving and reef enhancement techniques, offering hands-on experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster environmental stewardship. Participants learn about coral reefs, mangroves, marine ecology, and practical conservation techniques while gaining valuable experience in the water.
By introducing young people to marine conservation at an early age, we help create a new generation of volunteers, advocates, and future conservation professionals. This ripple effect helps ensure the long-term protection of Curaçao's reefs.
CAPACITY BUILDING
Healthy reefs require more than good ideas - they require people.
Many organizations in Curaçao already have the knowledge, tools, and techniques needed for reef restoration, but scaling these efforts requires people power.
REACT is working towards building a trained network of local volunteers who can support reef restoration efforts across the island, not just with REACT, but with any partner in need. Through practical training in algae removal, reef maintenance, monitoring, and other hands-on techniques, we equip people with the skills needed to contribute directly to conservation projects.
By fostering collaboration between NGOs, dive shops, researchers, and community members, we help build the local capacity needed to support long-term reef restoration throughout Curaçao.
RESEARCH-BASED RESTORATION
There is no single solution to reef recovery.
At REACT, we use science-backed methods to improve reef health through a combination of complementary interventions. These include removing harmful algae, reducing populations of coral predators, restoring key grazing species, and monitoring reef health to better understand what works.
We continuously test, evaluate, and refine our techniques. From developing tools that make reef cleaning more efficient to creating habitat that supports the return of important herbivores, our goal is to identify practical solutions that can be applied at scale.
By combining multiple reef enhancement techniques and adapting our approach based on evidence, we work to create healthier reef ecosystems and improve the long-term success of restoration efforts.
